Mentoring training through the Australian Women's Mentoring Network focuses on a combination of mentoring, coaching and networking techniques, which form the basics of supportive communication and the definition, management and achievement of goals with the support of a mentor.

Mentor Training

Introductory Mentor Training Workshop for 1:1 Mentoring

This workshop focuses on the basics of mentoring.  Topics covered include:

  • what is mentoring
  • mentoring styles
  • benefits of mentoring for mentor, mentee and the organisation
  • roles & responsibilities of mentors and mentees
  • phases of the mentoring partnership
  • the first meeting and how to manage it
  • setting up a formal or informal mentoring agreement
  • setting goals and strategies
  • maintaining motivation and management of the mentoring process

Duration:   3hrs

Style:         Powerpoint presentation with interactive individual and group exercises.

Materials: Worksheets and slide handouts provided

 

Peer Group Mentoring

This workshop introduces the concept of peer group mentoring and is suitable for larger numbers of mentees (up to 25 pax) who may benefit from discussing common issues within a group of their peers.  After some initial instruction, participants self-select peer groups according to interest or goal areas.  Topics covered include:

  • what is mentoring
  • mentoring styles
  • benefits of mentoring for mentees and the organisation
  • Setting long-term and short-term SMART goals
  • Developing strategies and overcoming obstacles
  • peer group mentoring in practice

Duration:            3hrs

Mentoring for Success Workshop

The Mentoring for Success workshop is for anyone interested in mentoring, either as a mentor or mentee, and provides an introductory background to mentoring, networking and goal-setting.  It can be used by mentoring partners to initiate their first meeting. This workshop includes an exciting speed mentoring session, peer group and one:one mentoring in action, networking and the creation of a personal or career goal plan.  In addition, you will learn the basics of mentoring from beginning to end, to prepare you for successful mentoring partnerships.

Topics covered include:

  • What is mentoring and how can it help me?
  • Goal Setting
  • Networking and Mentoring Management
  • 1:1 Mentoring

Mentors will work with mentees (or role play if they are not in a mentoring partnership yet) throughout the day, learn how to set up an agreement, how to use peer group mentoring and networking to their advantage, discuss and set priorities and goals and begin work on strategies for achieving the goals. This workshop is very interactive and includes individual and group exercises.

Duration:            Full-day (9am-4pm)
