7 Steps to ACTION Procrastination Print E-mail

We all are masters at extraordinary things within our lives, including the 'not so' resourceful things such as procrastination, allowing fear to control our actions and remaining stuck for any reason we can think of because then it means that we are (unhappily) comfortable. The unknown is scary because we believe if we can't control it, then it can't be good.

Hally Rhiannon-NammuLet me put this to you... when you drive your car on a country road that you haven't driven on before, enjoying the smell of the air and beautiful scenery; do you know what is around the next corner? Do you know if there is a hill or a slope? So why keep driving?

Life is the same. You may not know what is around the corner and there is only one exciting way to find out...

Try on a new resource to ACTION Procrastination. One that will allow you to gain a different, empowering perspective:

  1. Make a list of three things – of what you need to get done this week that you have been putting off.

  2. What we hesitate in doing can be simple however; when there is a barrier that is preventing you from fulfilling it, it can seem like a very big mountain to climb.

  3. Write them down in order of priority - what is the easiest, the fastest or the order of preference to what would bring you the greatest fulfilment.

  4. Write next to each one when in this week it will be completed (be realistic).

  5. The excuses will come flooding in with this; however, allow them to continue to flow on by. These three things are simple actions and we, in our magnificent selves, can do anything!

  6. Then make a list of three things that are stopping you from getting this done. These will be the barriers.

  7. When looking at the barriers, consider what you can change and what you can't. If it is out of your control, choose something else to action.

However, something to keep in mind is that often with problems, procrastination and inaction is that we push it to being an external problem, so it no longer belongs to us. Consequently, we give ourselves permission to do nothing about it.

  8. Review your list and ask what is really in your control and what has been pushed externally and is still in your control. Be honest because you will benefit from bringing the problem back. When you do this with something that is within your control, you gain control and best of all, it empowers you to take ACTION.

  9. Include 3 things that you can do or have available to help you get this done.

  10. These are resources that will assist you to fulfil your list. It may be a person, it may be a skill that you have put on the shelf or even something in the cupboard. There are no limitations to the resources you can use.

  11. ACTION this the day before you need to and celebrate your victory.

When you feel words flowing through your mind about why you can't, shouldn't and have other things to do, remind yourself of your very important list, and give yourself permission to allow these reasons to have the week off.

Each time these un-motivating thoughts come to mind replace it something empowering such as "I am magnificent. I am empowered. I am in ACTION".

Creating ACTION will empower you to remove procrastination from your life and allow abundance and success to be ever-present.
